ASC FULL ASSESSMENT
An ASC full assessment is the process through which a farm is formally assessed to determine if it meets the applicable ASC species-specific Standard. The ASC Standards are designed to ensure the preservation of the natural environment, biodiversity, and water resources, provide good working conditions for employees and communication with stakeholders.
A Conformity Assessment Body is required to undertake a rigorous and public audit to determine compliance with the following ASC principles:
PRINCIPLE 1: Legal compliance with national and local laws and regulations.
PRINCIPLE 2: Preservation of natural habitats, local biodiversity and ecosystem.
PRINCIPLE 3: Preservation of the diversity of the wild population.
PRINCIPLE 4: Preservation of water resources and quality.
PRINCIPLE 5: Responsible use of feed and other resources.
PRINCIPLE 6: Improved fish health and controlled and responsible use of antibiotics and chemicals.
PRINCIPLE 7: Farms to be socially responsible toward their workers and the local community.
Full assessments take place during the initial as well as re-certification assessments and include an on-site audit which occurs when the farm is performing harvesting activities.
Throughout a full assessment, stakeholder involvement is welcomed and encouraged. Stakeholders are notified before an audit and invited to make formal submissions on the Public Comment Draft Report. There is also an opportunity to meet with the Conformity Assessment Body during the site visit.
A full assessment will commonly take four to five months. The ASC Farm Certificate is valid for three years with the requirement of two annual surveillance audits. The farm may then enter re-assessment.
bio.inspecta can be tailor assessments for a single site, multi-site and group certifications.
