SASCHA BRAND-GARDNER

PROGRAM MANAGER: MARINE STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL

Sascha Brand-Gardner is the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Program Manager at bio.inspecta Pty Ltd, Centre for Seafood Certification and is responsible for the development and maintenance of the program. Sascha is a certified lead auditor under the ISO 9001:2015 standard and is an MSC Principle 3 expert. Sascha has led a wide range of MSC assessments across numerous species, fisheries and regions. Sascha is also a trained MSC Chain of Custody auditor performing assessments for numerous organisations throughout Australia.

Sascha has more than 20 years of experience in fisheries policy, ecosystem-based fishery management, project management and liaison with the fishing and aquaculture industries. Sascha holds a degree in Marine Zoology (Hons) from the University of Queensland and has also worked on several marine research projects related to endangered, threatened and protected species, fishery habitats, abalone and aquaculture. Prior to bio.inspecta, Sascha was a senior fishery manager at the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) - Fisheries Division in Western Australia where she worked on a range of resource management projects for over 15 years. Sascha managed several large trawl and pelagic fisheries as well as multispecies ornamental species. She worked in Western Australia’s Fisheries Certification Project team that supported MSC pre-assessments of 50 commercial fisheries and the full certification of several invertebrate fisheries.
